Where is my friend?

We sing this lots in our class, but not often as the original song was intended!  We mostly substitute friend for other words we are learning.  So if we are learning clothes, we will sing whilst looking for teddy bear’s clothes, eg teddy bear sings ‘我的袜子在哪里?’ (wǒde wàzi zài nǎli? / Where’s my sock?), or if Mr Potato Head is looking for his nose, we would sing (wǒde bízi zài nǎli?/Where’s my nose?)

This is a very popular Chinese song, many versions available, but we watch a Wink to Learn version in class.  You can buy from their website, but you can watch this particular song for free on youtube as streamed below.

Here are the original lyrics:

yī èr sān sì wǔ liù qī

wǒ de péng yǒu zài nǎ li?

zài zhè lǐ , zài zhè lǐ

wǒ de péng yǒu zài zhè lǐ

English translation: 1234567, Where is my friend?, Here she is, here she is, my friend is here.  As above, once children know this song it can be substituted with any noun sets you want, family members and pre-school furniture and materials are another great option!
